Maybe disabling the lights from a candle flames particles, adding a single, additional, invisible mesh, emitting light, to the candlesticks (which moves and changing size in a loop) or a really simple particle system (only one for an entire mesh), can help with solving the huge performance degradation problem? What do you think ? Twenty emitters, each of them generates particles, and there are many such places in Dungeons.
